Day Forty-Six

Last night seemed to go well.  James slept for most of the night without any further complications.  The action plan for the day is to continue managing his pain.  Yesterday we were pushing off pain meds because he "looked good" and that was a mistake.  So today I chose to stay the scheduled course for medicine and stay ahead of any anticipated pain.

Today was an exciting day of Floor Six....Santa is coming for a visit!!!!  James was so excited to hear that Santa was making his big visit.  He had no idea that Santa would also be giving him a toy!  The meet and greet with Santa could not have gone better.  This was James' first time actually meeting him.  It was like he had known Santa for years.  His normal shyness was non-existent and Santa was suddenly his very best friend (besides his friend Caleb - that he met on the 6th floor).  James was given a huge train set by Santa.  I guess it pays to be his first customer!

After Santa's visit Barbara, the nurse from Neurosurgery, came back to remove the pressure bandage from James' head.  We had our fingers crossed that the bleeding from the prior day had stopped...and it did!  Thank goodness! Now the only thing standing between James and home was begin able to eat and keep the food down.  After being sick the day before and once this morning, we all agreed that James eating was an important step to his recovery and going home.

Tonight I'll be James' sleepover pal, as Al had a super long day of work.  We're hoping it's the last night we'll be here.
